Sound

AMAZING. Light and well made. Cannot be matched by any other mid grade banjo for construction and sound. I had a cripple creek and could never get the ripping tone I wanted out of it. NOT SO HERE!!! This thing is perfect. And I started on a crap banjo, then a Harmony, then the Cripple Creek Gold Tone...I'm not buying another one now. I found it. Go on Youtube and look up the demo on this puppy. It's awesome.

Setup

I tuned it out of the box and put a new bridge on it...but that's it. The neck is nice and slim and the headstock looks like an old Gibson design...sort of. Well made.

Appearance

Beautiful hearts and flowers inlay. The mother of pearl on the headstock is beautiful too. I liked my lighter maple banjo for the color... But when a banjo sounds this good...It could be smurf blue and I would have still bought it.

Reliability

WELL MADE TUNERS!!!!!!!!!!! Unlike the craptacular tuners that I experienced on the Recording King 20. What a hunk of crap that thing was. Cheaply made, cheap wood, poor, poor, poor. AND IT WOULDN'T hold a tune. This thing holds a tune for months.

Customer Service

These guys are great. Chinese made banjo but i'll play this next to a Deering Goodtime 2 and blow it out of the water every time. No contest. Gold tone has the stuff.

Components

No. Absolutely not. The flange is beautiful. The armrest is STRIKING! And I love Gold Tone's tail pieces. In this price range...Try to beat a Gold Tone. I couldn't.

Overall Comments

I am a poor guy. Had to sell the cripple creek for 3 something to get into this one at 5 something. No comparison. I don't play open back so the detachable resonator on the cripple creek was cool, but useless for me. I want that sharp Scruggs sound. If you do to. You will NOT BEAT THE SOUND IN THIS PRICE RANGE!!! I guarantee it. Go on Youtube and listen. You'll see!
