Gold Tone: Cripple Creek CC-Mini

Submitted by daddydaughter on 2/8/2005

Where Purchased: Acoustic Music

Year Purchased: 2004
Price Paid: Don't Remember historic exchange rates / currency converter

Sound

For its size (3/4 size) , it puts out a nice bright sound, however it is a bit thin sounding when compared to a full size open back.

Sound Rating: 7

Setup

Setup seems ok , no changes have been necessary

Setup Rating: 8

Appearance

The CC-mini looks similar to a GoodTime openback, just smaller. All natural maple with a rosewood finger board. It also has guitar style tuners. The fingerboard is shorter, only 20 frets, but it is only slightly smaller than a full size neck (width) and the strings are a little closer. The fret spacing on the upper neckis reduced as well.

Appearance Rating: 9

Reliability

Seems solid enough., although the tuning pegs could be of higher quality.

Reliability Rating: 7

Customer Service

No need to deal with Gold Tone at this point.

Components

As stated above, the tuners could be of a better quality. As it is tuned to either "C" or "A" , the tuning seems to be a little trickey for me. Does not stay in tune as well as a higher end banjo.

Components Rating: 6

Overall Comments

My daughter received this banjo as a Christmas present, so she could have a banjo to travel with on the airplane, and take backpacking. It is indeed great for kids, the chords are easier to lay down on the smaller neck. In comparison to our other full sized banjos, it will never be played as much, although for traveling I think it will work out just great !

Overall Rating: 7
