Arkansas: Mountain View

Sound

It has great bottom end, clear and clean all way up the neck. I had it especially made by Joe, for my taste and style of picking. It is mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard, gold tone ring, nickel parts and "pass" rim, ivoroid binding, resonator rings, Gotoh tuners and ivoriod buttons.

Sound Rating: 10

Setup

Joe had it set up just for me. He even had the strap put on that I sent him prior to assembly. I was staying in a cabin I had rented, and he even brought it to my front door in Mouontain View Arkansas.

Setup Rating: 10

Appearance

As stated above, I had it "special ordered", made to my specs. Joe was very helpful, in that he keep me posted all during the time it was being made.

Appearance Rating: 10

Reliability

It should last me a life time.

Reliability Rating: 10

Customer Service

Joes is first class. I was in the area once, he invited ne over, took me to dinner, and also out to a jam session.

Components

The case , even though it is a hardshell, could be better. It needs another latch I think.

Components Rating: 9

Overall Comments

I'd recommend it to anyone who play professionally or just around the house.

Gibson: J.D. Crowe RB-75

Submitted by Stevespickn on 11/2/2004

Where Purchased: Mountain View Music

Year Purchased: 2004
Price Paid: xxxx ($US)

Sound

The sound is what I was looking for. It has great tone, a dry big note, with enough volume that the notes do not over ride each other.

Sound Rating: 10

Setup

I am used to standard spacing of the bridge, so I changed to a Sosbee bridge from the Crowe soacing. I had to tighten the screws in the tuners. I did go with medium strings, 10-12-14-22.

Setup Rating: 10

Appearance

I love the old look. I think that is one thing that sets it apart from other Gibsons, also other brands.

Appearance Rating: 10

Reliability

I have never had any failures with Gibson products, do not expect any this time.

Reliability Rating: 10

Customer Service

Not used any yet.

Customer Service: 9

Components

It has to be the Crowe Tone Ring.

Components Rating: 10

Overall Comments

I have insurance on it. I'd get another ASAP.
