This is one terrific sounding banjo, and it just keeps getting better. The tone and clarity of the notes is pretty amazing, even all the way up the neck. It has such a full sound that seems to come from deep within the instrument. You can feel the vibrations through the neck and the back of the resonator.

The set-up was pretty good right out of the box. Of course, I made of few small adjustments to suit myself. I've got the First Quality head, Snuffy Smith bridge, and the new "Two-Hump" tailpiece that came with it. The only thing I've changed is putting on some Earl Scruggs medium strings. I have the top of the tension hoop 5/32" off the head and the tailpiece 7/32" off the head. This banjo has the standard 3-ply rim and Sullivan tone ring.

The wood and finish on this thing is truly beautiful. The curly grain is very even on the resonator and all the way up and down the neck. The stain and sunburst finish really enhance the wood. The inlay work is excellent. It also came with the pearl truss rod cover and pearl bound headstock, this adds a nice touch to the ebony headstock overlay and fingerboard. The plating on the metal parts is flawless.

Everything on the banjo seems to be very well made. This banjo will outlast me, that's for sure.

Customer Service

I ordered direct from First Quality and they are a pleasure to do business with. Some of the nicest people around. I haven't had to have any service done, but I'm sure that would stand behind everything. The banjo has a lifetime warranty on it.

I haven't found any weak points on the components yet. The new tailpiece is well made and very easy to adjust. It has the updated Waverly V-2 tuning pegs, so I haven't had any problems there. The TKL hardcase is built to take some serious abuse.

Overall Comments

I love this banjo very much, it was worth every penny. I started on a Goodtime 2 (which I had sounding pretty good), but after playing this one, the Goodtime just sounds so dead. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one of these banjos. Very highly recommended!!
