Mutes: Mike's Banjo Mute

Overall Comments

I recently saw the caption "saves marriages" used to describe a banjo mute. Immediately understanding what that meant, I had to have one.
Mike's Youtube vid says it all.
This well crafted mute quiets your instrument to a whisper wihtout any rattles or buzz and retains the banjo's sound.
I cant think of a better practice (or composing) tool because you never know inspiration will strike.
I would recommend it to anyone who cares to listen!

Mastercraft: Elite

Sound

I moved up to this banjo from the Mastercraft Blugrass with the rolled brass tone ring. Ths banjo has more volume and sustain.
The balance acrossed the strings is great too, you can hear each note even when playing a relatively fast passage.
A "real" tone ring banjo makes a very big difference in the sound.
I also upgraded the bridge to a Saga hard rock maple with an ebony cap.

Setup

Setup (next to price) was main reason I chose Banjohut. Having done busines with Paul and his group before I knew I could trust their work. I was able to talk with Paul as well when I ordered it (I dont like just clicking the "buy" button for a purchase like this) and describe to him what I like and get his advice as to what works and what doe not.
The set up was great.

Appearance

This is a great looking banjo.
The flame on the back of the resonator is beautiful, if understated. The back of the neck (appearance only) is OK. The binding and the wood tone have an almost vintage look too it. I did have one small problem with a crack in the inlay which was taken care of immediately by Paul.

Appearance Rating: 9

Reliability

The hardware seems dependable. I would gig it without a backup. The tuners could be better, but at this price you can afford to upgrade them.

Reliability Rating: 8

Customer Service

I'm not sure of the warranty, but having dealt with Paul in the past and knowing others who have bought at Banjohut you will be satisfied. p.s. I am not related too, or affiliated with Banjohut in any fashion!

Customer Service: 10

Components

standout: resonator, tone ring, inlay, flange...vitrually all the brightwork.
weak: I'd replace the tuners

Overall Comments

Overall I am very satisifed with this banjo and would recommend to anyone.
The overall appearance of the banjo is actually better then it looks on the website. (the headstock inlay really pops!)
In rating value for price paid, I dont know if there is a better deal out there.
