Deering: Tenbrooks Legacy

Sound

This Legacy is maple. It has a very clear sound. Each note rings out with note separation. The 3rd string is particularly sweet. It sounds really good at all the frets. The harmonics are good, 12th,19th and 7th are very good. 5th is not as harmonic. 5th string 12th fret is equally good. It has its own sound, as do most makes and models. it has a full, bright sound.

Setup

It was set up fine. It had an 11/16 bridge which made the action at 7th fret 7.5/64, I like it some lower, so put a .656 bridge, which made the action 6.5/64. Just my preference.

Appearance

It's maple, stained dark . Mirror finish, The inlays are elegant and not gaudy, almost fairly plain but real quality work. There is one slight flaw about 1/2 inch long where the binding meets the resonator side, but almost not noticable.

Components

The tone ring appears to be outstanding, it is actually quite a bit lighter than all my other banjo, by several pounds. It is noticably lighter. All the parts fit like a glove.

Overall Comments

Once you reach a certain point in price, there are alot of super banjos out there, then its just a matter of sound preference. I would recommend a Tenbrooks to anyone if your looking for a rock solid, reliable and good sound banjo. The only banjo I have played that I liked better was a 1927 Granada. If stolen, and insured, I would buy another one. The favorite feature about it, is the distinct note separation, each not rings out.
