Sound

Loud, very loud. Very beautiful tone.

Sound Rating: 10

Setup

Perfectly set up exactly how I wanted it. Dave at turtle hill did the setup on it and I contacted him and told him what I wanted, and that is what I got.

Setup Rating: 10

Appearance

No flaws, very beautiful. I had a certain inlay pattern put in it and ot turned out perfect.

Appearance Rating: 10

Reliability

I believe it will last a lifetime, and then some.

Reliability Rating: 10

Customer Service

I can not say anything better about Scott and Dave both. They were great. Scott delivered exactly what I asked for and Dave, when the shipping company LOST the banjo, got it sorted out for me in no time. Scott was already starting a new one for me as well in case it was un-recoverable. Thank God UPS found it.

Customer Service: 10

Components

Everything was wonderful, high quality.

Overall Comments

If you want a great banjo then this is where to look. Scott is superb when it comes to building and Dave was great to deal with purchasing it. They are two people I would reccomend no matter what you want in a banjo.

Tyler Mountain: TM5-90

Submitted by smorrow61 on 1/28/2002

Where Purchased: dr clucks on e-bay

Year Purchased:
Price Paid: 499.00 ($US)

Sound

Very good sound for bluegrass. Good tone. Loud.

Sound Rating: 10

Setup

The Banjo was set up almost perfect when I got it. The head was a little off but that was it.

Setup Rating: 10

Appearance

The finish is high quality. Very nice grain to the wood. resonator was bookmatched nicely. Inlays are attractive and the carvings on the neck and head stock were better than I had expected.

Appearance Rating: 10

Reliability

I would be highly dissapointed and shocked if this banjo ever gave me any trouble or extra maintenance out of the ordinary. Very well constructed. I dont know how long the plating will
last, gold has a tendancy to wear off quick but the finish is solid.

Reliability Rating: 10

Customer Service

dr clucks is the name of the people I bought it from off of e-bay. I talked to them on the telephone and they were extremly courteous and very prompt. It has a 2 year warranty from Tyler Mountain.

Components

Everything is gold plated. it looks like it was plated good. the armrest is engraved and the tuners are good quality and very smooth. the neck is well constructed but not too heavy. The bridge is the only thing that I would change but the one on it is very well made. the fingerboard is smooth and is fretted very well.

Overall Comments

This banjo is loud enough and has a good enough tone to it that I think it would be the perfect intermediate banjo for any one. It has a nice price to it and looks great. I am very impressed with there quality. If you cant afford a mastertone or dont want one (for whatever reason) I would say that a Tyler Mountain is the banjo for you. It's one heck of a deal for the money.
