Sound

This was my first tubaphone, and I am delighted with it. Very bright. Great sustain.

Sound Rating: 10

Setup

Set up was perfectly fine. Just tightened up the head a bit.

Appearance

One of my favorite configurations that Patrick makes. Cherry neck with a persimmon fingerboard. I add amber tuning knobs from Elderly to banjos with these type of woods. It’s just beautiful.

Appearance Rating: 10

Reliability

I own six Pisgah banjo‘s and I never have any problem with them.

Customer Service

Only once have I had to address an issue with a banjo from Pisgah. It was a new purchase. They went way beyond anything you would ever expect to take care of my problem. Indeed, they gave me a brand new banjo. Over minor cosmetic issues that I almost didn’t mention to them. They really are extraordinary.

Overall Comments

Unless I missed it, no one has yet to write a comment on one of Patrick's 5/6 string banjos. This is my first 5/6. And my first tubaphone. If you ever get a chance to try a banjo with this configuration, I would suggest you avail yourself of the opportunity. It took me a few days to become accustom to it. But once I did, wow! It really adds a whole other dimension to the banjo. And the pairing of that with a 12" tubaphone tone ring is a wonderful combination. It might take you a little time to truly become accustom to it. I can switch back-and-forth between my others and this one now without difficulty.

Pisgah: 12" Dobson Rambler

Sound

Sound is such a subjective thing. For me, I have yet to find a 12” that gives me the sound I want with the exception of a spun-over Dobson. This is particularly true in tunings that lower the bass strings below standard G tuning. The first time I played Patrick’s Rambler I was amazed at how balanced and civilized it was. And the ethereal qualities of the Dobson tone ring… I knew I’d found best 12” for my taste. I’ve played another by a different maker. A lovely thing, but it has nothing over the PIsgah. And that one was a thousand more.

Setup

Set up was spot on. I haven’t changed a thing.

Appearance

No imperfections. Not one.

Reliability

I have no experience with a Richlite fret board but I have no trepidations about it.

Customer Service

I’ve had the pleasure of talking to Patrick a few times. I really like the guy personally, and respect his abilities. He is a pleasure to deal with.

Components

Dobson was spot on with the original spun-over rim/Dobson tone ring combo for my sound preferences. I so glad Patrick is making it. Top quality.

Overall Comments

Well, I’m going to buy more from this maker. I want something in a persimmon fingerboard. It would be quite unique.
