Sound

I love playing on the radiused neck. As a newbie I was afraid that this would be difficult to play but instead I find my fingers gliding easily when moving up and down the neck and playing chords. I have a bad back so I bought the Cyclotronic Ball Bearing conversion Kit for Heli-Mount 300. The TimbrTronic tone ring system lightened up the banjo and dropped it down to around 7.5 pounds from the 10-11 pounds it weighed with the 20 Hole Bell Bronze Tone Ring that it came with. Overall it was a lot lighter than the Sierra model that it replaced by a couple of pounds but my back still wanted more relief the heli mount design allowed me to change the tone ring out in less than five minutes. As I learn more about my own playing style the Nechville aloes me to easily change my settings

Setup

Setup was perfect when I bought it. I liked the action set a little high and just by turning a canter levered screw in the neck I can adjust the action and try different styles. Because of the heli mount system I can just tighten the head for a brighter sound or loosen it for a warmer mellow sound. I am not a luthier I am all thumbs when it comes to working on instruments so I guess I am more of a Lex Luthier but I have worked on this banjo like an expert. Tom has built an instrument that is miles ahead of the rest of the industry. It is innovative and just brilliant.

Appearance

People who walk (or are dragged) into my home always comment on the beauty of the Tiger Stripe Maple Neck and Resonator woodwork. It is stunning. The pearl and abalone cascade inlay is stunning and the dotted fret markers make it easy to tell where I am on the neck with just a quick glance

Reliability

From my knowledge of banjo equipment I believe that this is built to last. Tuners are precise and I rarely have to retune during any playing session after I check my tuning at the start. They make a special instrument that is highly dependable. I have had no regrets since I bought this model

Customer Service

Customer service between dealing with either Tom Nechville or Al Price is a breeze. They are helpfull and take time to help me out no matter how dumb my questions can be. They truly stand behind their product and make sure that it's the best experience you can have. It's not an act either. They both are committed to what they do and being the best. I am not sure what the exact warranty is but I think it covers the original owner for as long as you have it. If I'm wrong I will repost with the actual warranty

Components

The heli mount system the flux capacitor system for removing the neck. The Nechville In-Line Tailpiece and the Nechville Enterprise Bridge which come in three heights for string angle are all top of the line

Overall Comments

The only disappointment that I have after three months is I wished I got the galaxy inlay instead of the cascade inlay and I wish I had purchased a tunneled fifth string but these are just my own preferences that if I had to do it over again I would change. Other than that I am happy with my purchase and I could not have bought from a better manufacturer or dealer. Made in USA means something special in this case
