I bought one from Doc ( few weeks ago) for my new Reiter Bacophone based on  what I told him. It was too muted, and dark, but he did his best based on my info.  Without any problem, he said send it back and it was replaced with what he described as what many Bluegrass players use to just mellow the tone a little, so about a 1.5 on a scale of ten. Plenty O' Volume.  Wow!  It is purrrrrrfect... And just mellowed the tone/brightness a little. Really sounds great........I get so many compliments on this piece of Art, very colorful.

Very, very well done.  A really nice touch is Doc is obviously a really nice guy- and wonderful to do business with.  His bridges are pricey..........and worth every penny!  -BC

The previous reviewer gives a lot of the technicalities.  I just wanted to add that my new bridge significantly improves the tone of my Wildwood Troubadour; it gives the sound some warmth and richness, almost like adding layers to the tone.  I wish I could describe it better.

Doc seems to be able to tailor each bridge to your style of playing and your hoped for improvement in sound.  Aside from more mellow tone I asked for a little more string spacing to help me with my plucking and pulling off.

So, a great value and a huge success.  I'm very pleased.

I deliberated over this bridge only a couple of days, even though it's the most expensive bridge I've purchased. Like a lot of banjo players with access to the internet at work (uhhh), I've read a fair amount about how different bridges can affect tone. The philosophy behind this bridge jives with everything I've read.

To sum it up:
It is by far the best bridge I've yet to put on any of my banjos (and I've got some nice ones now). It's compensated. It makes a complete connection between all the strings and the head of the banjo. It's vertically laminated, which is a totally new fancy feature that was previously unknown to me (and may explain why it sounds so much better than any of the other bridges I've tried out).

It is absolutely beautiful. Both in appearance and sound. It is a work of art in every way. It is perfect. I could not be happier.
