Perry Germann of Germann Guitars in Elkhart Indiana is an awsome Luthier. He restored two instruments, an acoustic Guitar and an antique banjo to flawless playing condition. The first guitar had a split face that I had carried around for more than 10 years, for just plinking around. He identified the guitar as a valuable Japanese Cedar guitar worth $800, repaired the face split, repaired the separated bridge, and added a new set of strings for $80. Best sounding guitar I have ever heard - and now my sons constant companion.
My wife found a banjo at an antique store and bought it for my birthday. The banjo had a broken fifth tuner. Perry identified an additional bent tuner and saw the nut needed replacement. Perry quoted $110 to replace the set of five tuners and nuts, including parts. After making the repairs, Perry found the fret board was uneven and unplayable. Perry sanded the fret board, evened out the frets, and replaced the full set of frets. Because he hadn't originally quoted the refretting, Perry charged not a single penny more for the extra work. While the banjo isn't an outstanding instrument like the guitar, it is now extremely playable and exactly what I've been looking for to get started playing the banjo.
I highly recommend Perry's work and would not take another instrument any where else.
Perry also has an award winning line of custom made electric and slide guitars. Check out Perry Germann's web site at: http://www.germannguitars.com/
