Cases (Hard, Flight)  Gold Tone HD14 Banjo Part/Accessory Reviews

I picked up a Gold Tone HD14 case today, so, what follows are initial impressions.  From the outside it looks bigger than expected, but that is because the inside has a lot of thick padding.  My banjo, a Japanese Iieda I bought in 1983 and lately converted to open back, fits very snugly into the case.  The padding is such that it does not appear possible for any part of the instrument to come into contact with the case shell itself.  My first impression is that the banjo is very well protected.

A tab on the lid of the accessory compartment is stamped TKL so you know who actually made it.  Whether the Gold Tone differs in any way (cosmetics maybe?) from cases made for other corporate brands I do not know.  The medium grey shag type padding is attractive.

The accessory compartment is not as large as I have seen in some other cases, but big enough.  The neck is six inches wide so a pack of strings will lie flat.  The fit and finish are OK.  The lid fits the case body reasonably well but I would not trust it to be watertight in a driving rain.

I waited ten weeks and four days from order to arrival, but this cannot be usual.  Given that it is at the low end of the price range for banjo cases, you can't expect perfection in every aspect.  The protection it appears to give the instrument is the basis for my "9" rating.

This appears to be a great case. It is very sturdy, and the inside is lined with plush synthetic fur. It fits my Gold Tone WL-250 perfectly.

I have only one small complaint about it, which is that the strap that connects the bottom with the lid to prevent it from bending too far backward tends to fold out of the case instead of in when closing, which is a bit annoying.
