Cases (Hard, Flight)  Guardian Standard Fiberglass Case Banjo Part/Accessory Reviews

The case came with the banjo. It still has the hang tag on the case and no wear marks so I'm pretty sure it's just about new.

The case itself is fine, but the rivets that hold the top shell to the bottom shell are already loose. I can move the top about 1/4 inch. And this is a new case. Makes me distrust the case completely. What's going to happen as the case ages?

I sent Guardian an email explaining the situation including the bard code number from the hand tag. I should be interesting to see what they have to say, if anything.

I bought this case when they first came out because I thought it would bridge the gap between your quality plywood case and the more expensive fiberglass cases from Price and Calton.

The case smelled like glue for the first week that I owned it but I let it sit out in the sun for a couple days and the smell dissipated. The interior is decent with enough padding to firmly hold my banjo in place. The case has been dropped several times, used as a stool, and even went through airport baggage handling (against my will) twice. The case and my banjo has survived all of it.

All that being said I bet a quality plywood case would do just as well. This case doesn't bridge the gap between a standard hardshell and the more expensive flight cases. I've gone through three handles for this case, two latches, and had the weather stripping fall off completely. In my opinion, save your money and get a Price, Calton, or Hoffee case.

Fiberglass, yes, but very poor construction: Seal around the edge was inconsistent, weight wasn't centered when the case was full (it wanted to fall forward onto its face), cheap latches....just generally the cheapest job one could possibly do.

This case really exceeded my expectations. I can't find a single thing wrong with it except for maybe just a little more padding on the yokes where the neck rests. I would highly recommend this case to anyone looking for fiberglass case and doesn't want to shell out the big bucks for a Price or Calton.
