I decided to wait at least 6 months before submitting this review, so that I would be familiar with the banjo and would not be overly infuenced by the newness.
The 1st and 4th strings are especially strong. The banjo rings just enough. I love the tone and it is a cannon.

Sound Rating: 10

I worked with Grant, one of the Owners of Twelfth Fret. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. The set up was great, although I prefer a lower action.
Carolina Bridges, at Deering, exchanged the 11/16" standard height bridge with a 5/8", which suits me better.
I asked Grant that the setup be per Terry Baucom's preferences; head tuned to "A", 10-10-13-20-10 strings, and Baucom string spacing,

Walnut is a naturally beautiful wood, and the wanut resonator and neck make a beautiful banjo. The inlay work is well done, but not the fanciest I have seen. The inlay is adequate but not over the top.

The wood and metal finishes are fine and everything fits well. I am pleased with it.
I own a more expensive banjo that is extraordinarily well constructed. The fitment, the chrome plating, machining and tolerances are the best I've seen, but that banjo does not sound as good as the Deering.

Customer Service

No repairs or warranty work required. My experience with Deering has been good.

The spikes open up, which was a little different, but now I prefer them that way. Deering uses a spike rather than a 5th string nut. It works fine, just different from what I'm used to.
The tone ring is a variation of the Deering 06, and it is not as heavy.

Overall Comments

In my opinion, Deering and Baucom have made an effort to bring a truely professional sounding banjo to market at a cost that is less expensive than competetive models (both inside and outside of Deering). They have spared no expense in the areas that affect sound and tone, They provided very nice, but not expensive components in areas that don't contribute to the main purpose of the instrument., TO SOUND GOOD!!
