Sounds very good. Very punchy .... i. e. loud. Surprising volume considering it has a wooden rim/tone ring combination made by Tony Pass.

A full, rich sound. Good sustain. All around good.

All good. There were medium strings on it, I changed them to light. Strictly a personal preference. Scott Zimmerman "Z" bridge. Head tension good all around. Good stuff.

Setup Rating: 10

Very attractive banjo. Walnut, but a shade or two lighter than most you see. Very nice. Gorgeous burl walnut resonator. I particularly like the design of the peghead. I can't put my finger pick on it, but it's a little different and I really like it. Bound peghead. Radiused fingerboard. If you've never tried a radiused fingerboard, you should.

Appearance Rating: 10

Top notch hardware. Gotoh tuners. Kershner tailpiece. Z bridge. As good as it gets.

Looks great. My wife would rather be seen in public with it than me.

Reliability Rating: 10

Customer Service

I have dealt with Dave Schenkman for many years. I have purchased 11 banjos from him (don't ask) and wouldn't think of buying one from anyone else. That is as good a recommendation as you can get, especially from a picky consumer like myself.

Customer Service: 10

The Woody model has a combination, one piece rim and tone ring made of Old (submerged) Wood by Tony Pass. The construction of the rim/ring unit is immaculate. This unit looks good enough to be framed and displayed on its own. It is a novel idea and it works. As a result of the reduction of metal, the banjo is also about 4-5 pounds lighter than the standard hog banjo, with every bit as good sound quality and volume as my Stelling or Ome. It is a very impressive banjo.

I love it. Buy one, you'll feel better. This is likely the most banjo for the money of any I have. I would definitely buy another. If he can make me one out of cherry, I might do it sooner rather than later. I would need my wife's permission.

If this banjo was stolen, I would dispatch Vinny and Guido to ensure that some serious punishment is delivered to the culprit.

I will probably be playing this banjo more than my others. It sounds every bit as good, and it is very light and comfortable to play.

Buying a banjo from Dave is a good experience .... every time.
