Banjo is on the loud side. Tone is definitely in the Gold Star family. Slightly on the mellow side. It is still settling from all the setup changes and adjustments.

Banjo had a close and bad encounter with a belt sander. Someone tried to adjust the neck heel with a power tool, causing a poor fit. Action was odd because of bad neck angle. Neck was reset by luthier and it's much better. It does need a fret job now. Banjo was setup for a tall (3/4") bridge ... took some getting used to, but I like it.

Banjo is very laid back, nice looking instrument. I replaced the head (stained, broken), hooks (corrosion) and bridge (warped). Other than that, it is in great shape, especially given its age. Woodwork is in fantastic condition.

Since it's used, it's hard to say. The tuners seem a little subpar, but maybe I am spoiled by the Waverly tuners on my other banjos.

I think it was a good banjo at a fair price. It it were stolen, I'd consider buying a new one only because it took 2+ years to find this one. Tone is *slightly* mellower than my Hubers, but surprisingly close when I listen to the recordings.
