It sounds pretty weak and tinny. It lacks the fullness in its tone that good banjos have.

If you're not sure if you'd like to play the banjo, I'd say go ahead and get a cheap import like this one, but even if you're halfway serious about the instrument, start with something better like a Deering Goodtime. I got this 3 months ago and I'm already desperately wanting a new one.
