Janish  Picker (Walnut) Banjo Reviews

Submitted by Coolbreeze (see all reviews from this person) on 1/28/2007

Where Purchased: Janet Davis Music Shop

Year Purchased: 2006
Price Paid: 3300 ($US)

This banjo sounds very warm with a bright bell-like tone that sounds similar to the best Gibson style banjos I have played. This is definitely a unique but sweet sounding banjo that sounds great in all tunings and up and down the neck and is quite loud without even trying. I have found myself experimenting with a lighter touch as the dynamics are pretty incredible with this banjo.

Great action and playability.

This is an extremely gorgeous banjo. Pavel Janish's own unique inlay design. Much like the inlays I find the headstock to be unique in that it is like a cross between a Gibson and a Stelling look, but with a sort of gothic look to it. Beautiful straight grain walnut neck and highly figured walnut resonator with a single abalone circle and flawless straight grain interior veneer. Excellent marquetry along neck and resonator, nickel plated metal parts.

Really excellent craftsmenship, no problems at all after one year of heavy playing.

Similar to a Gibson as it is pretty much a Pre-War copy with the same components and tone-ring as a Gibson, but with a special extra something that is a combination of warmth and a wonderful chime, bell-like tone...SWEET DUDE!!!
