Good little beach banjo, best suited for frailing and 2 finger up picking styles. Banjo is a tad echoey so I have a small piece of foam sponge right under the tailpiece-works great. Bright sounding-basic tone but decent.

ZEPP set up the banjo very well, except he left the head pretty loose for travel from the East coast to Hawaii. ZEPP did a great job putting in a spike for me,awesome job in fact.He positioned the bridge exactly right as well. I will probably end up adding one of Dave Browns tone rings, a moon bridge and planet style tuners-all this will be very easy on this banjo.Action is flawless on this one.

Very simple ,but a step up from the norm as this model has a fiddle cut peghead and gloss finish-the wood is pretty, and blond-like my wife. In fact my wife actually picked up this banjo and started strumming today-somthing she's never done with any of my other banjos.Ah, the lure of the goodtime! No flaws I can see, except for a chip out of the stock bridge on the 5th string side, but it doesn't affect the function.

These banjos are built very simply and light, I'm sure the way I play (alot), it will get worn in/out quickly. I wish Deering would put a reinforcement rod in the neck so I could use med. strings- but this banjo is simply a hiking, beach, and backup instrument,so no biggee.

I called Deering when I recieved the banjo to order a bracket wrench( they really should provide one with every new banjo IMO), and explained that the banjo was minus the armrest it's supposed to come with. Carolina was very nice and said the armrest would be shipped to me no charge-the bracket wrench is 5.oo plus shipping.

Standout is ease of playability, and lightness-also suprisingly good tone for this simple of an instrument. Weak neck, as it is thin and no support rod-fairly cheap bracket band(not notched) and only 16 hooks-but that's the goodtime. The tailpiece seems pretty good.Tuners are all good, a great beginner, kids, or second instrument.

Everyone knows about the goodtime. I gafawd them for years till I played one, and I was impressed enough to order it to take around with me so I wouldn't destroy my OME.Price wise you'd probably do much better with a Gold tone-but I've never had a Deering, and I like the "Made in USA" deal-so I wanted to have one.All in all, I'm enjoying it very much.Aloha, PH

Where Purchased: Steilberg String Instruments
Year Purchased: 2005
Price Paid: 699.00 ($US)
Love the sound of this banjo. I am learning to play bluegrass Scruggs style and this banjo really hits the highs and lows alot better than the cheap banjo I was using before.
Sound Rating: 8
Steilberg had this thing set up for me when I purchased it. They are a premier deering dealer and know what they are doing. Also got 30 days of free adjustments with the purchase so that when I learn what sound it is I"m really looking for I can get it.

I think the banjo is beautiful. Being that this is a pickers plus it has a gibson style cut peg head like most banjos. Not like the regular goodtimes have. Also has a gloss finish over the natural unstained wood which I think really makes it look nice.

No complaints on the reliability of this instrument as I have only owned it a short time. Everything looks fine and beautiful but I know it was made with cheaper components to keep the price down. But I understood this when I purchased it.

Comes with a one year warranty I think. Haven't sent it in yet.
Also haven't dealt with Deering directly yet for any needed repairs but I'm sure that will go well.

Like you always hear "you get what you pay for". This is a low end beginners american made banjo. Nothing more nothing less. I am very pleased with what I paid. I look forward to playing it for many years and doubt I will ever get rid of it.

Absolutely happy with what I paid for this banjo. It's more expensive than the regular goodtimes because of the gloss finish and the peg head but well worth the extra money. When I started looking at buying a new banjo I wanted to buy an american one. During my looking I considered some Morgan Monroes due to the extra dressing on them but I am very happy I came back to the Deering because the sound and I'm sure the workmanship is superior.
