I have Been Playing Claw Hammer Banjo For Around 4 Years Now, I Consider My Self to be a beginner to intermediate Player, In my Search For the Best Open Back Banjo in the range of 1,000.00 to 1,500.00, I went through many of the so called Asian made over sea's manufactured banjos. And they were not Cheep $$$ I spent at least 1,400.00 – 1,500.00 on a few of them. I have to say they were well made but I just could no find the right sound and a few of them were very heavy in weight !
Then came a trip to Carter Vintage Guitars In Nashville Tennessee, There I found a Banjo Hand Made in Asheville N C By The Pisgah Banjo Co. For 1,395.00 I Got A Beautiful 12'' Carter Vintage Special (Made Just For Carter Vintage) Black Ash Rim with A Brass Dobson tone ring, Walnut Neck. Mix of Antique Brass and Nickel Hardware, Brass Plate on the frailing scoop is very cool. The best of all It has the sound that most Open Back Old time banjo Players Like. Could be the Brass Dobson tone ring or maybe the ash rim or the brass frailing Scoop. I don't know,
But what every makes this one sound and play like it does, makes this one a keeper.
Hats off to the guys at Pisgah Banjos ! And Carter Vintage Guitars !
Great value, At affordable price for a usa made banjo............
