The original "skin-head" was torn so i replaced it with a clear plastic drom skin stretched over.It works fine! Now it is as loud as a bell factory!Very sharp, crisp and with a piercing tone. One day i'm expecting my ears to bleed.Perfect for strumming along jazz chords or even calculated picking movements.I love it.

Sound Rating: 9

I set it up myself with new strings and bridge and head. Was easy to set up.My set-up rating is 1 because the skin was ripped! Now i would give it an 8 after tinkering with it.

Looks lovely and antique. The see- through head compliments it and gives it a quirky look! It must be a 100 years old(hope i look that good at that age!) Neck is quite plain as are most zithers, except the high-end ones. The chrome plate and patina are holding out well.

I'm sure this will last another 50 years, will certainly see me out! It stays in tune and is very dependable. If i was a proper gigger i would use this.

The company is long gone, bombed out of existence by the Germans.Don't know if i could ever forgive them for doing this!!

Customer Service: not rated

The neck is lovely and streamlined to play because there is no 5th string peg i guess. The built in brass tone ring is the feature for me.I can twang this and people would think it was a call to go to church! The tuners are still working ok.

An extremely loud piercing banjo which is what you would expect after a plastic head conversion.I could tone it down by putting more nylon strings on,or i could just put a banjo mute on?! I would recommend anyone to purchase a Windsor zither,or any zither for that matter. You may be pleasantly surprised. They can be purchased relatively cheaply due to the amount which were made in the last century and before! But remember,to the best of my knowledge they are not making these again! Grag one while you can.I would only part with this zither to upgrade to an even better one,but i've got a feeling it will be a long time untill i hear a better sounding one.
