Where Purchased: E-Bay

Year Purchased: 2015
Price Paid: 1100 ($US) (bought USED)

Bought used "Mint" ... Very well made Banjo ... It is a good sounding Bluegrass/Country music instrument. It is easy to play and has quality gotoh tuners , the nickel plated hardware looks good and the neck is very player friendly ( suits my medium sized hands) has a slight V shape between 1st & 5th fretts. the aged binding looks nice, Inlays MOP have good color, The fretts are level and well dressed. The stock Gary Sosebee bridge is great. I like Nitro cellulose finishes on all my instruments when possible.

I purchased used Mint condition it was never setup except for the factory bridge location had pencil marks. I completely disassmbled the banjo.
The tone ring was a little bit loose on the rim, I ran steel wool around the rim and spun the ring several times to make it a bit more loose. The neck was originally pressing the tension hoop, I hand sanded the neck enough to give it a gap.
The nut slots were not deep enough to hold the strings in place so I had to file the nut, The fingerboard was very dry , I applied a few coats of lemon oil .
I let the tailpiece float above the tension hoop about 3/16 of an Inch, adjusted the screw in about 3/4". Leaned the bridge back ,set intonation, Good intonation.
I was not happy with the original neck angle using the stock 5/8" bridge, Strings were to high so I tweaked the Coordinator rods (rim) which I don't like to do to much of, I will be taking some Height off the bridge soon and ease up the coordinator (RiM) tension. But it came together very Nice. The head tension is around G# ... I feel it will only get better with wear time.

Looks Good , feels good, Recording King stain color is not the same as a Gibson.
Light Brown over all, The Nitro Cellulose finish will age yellow and it will look great

The Tone Ring works very well in this banjo to achieve a good sound Up and Down th neck . I am Impressed my initial ringing of the Tone Ring while disassembled did not sound that much Bell like , but so what it didn't matter.
I can't complain about anything yet, The sum of the parts are all working together here to make a fine instrument.

Overall Comments

I have read a lot of Positive reviews for the RK Elite 75.

So I started looking in this direction. I have all older Gibsons

and was not comfortable anylonger using them as daily players ... regardless of

the tone/performance ....  So I needed a workhorse ... beater Banjo that

will ? could hold its value and supply a level of excellence I have become use to.

I also have not had any problems with the longer scale...If you didn't  tell me I probably wouldn't have known it.  I like it, I think it actually makes things easier to frett.

This is not a cheap banjo .... It is a good value.  It must be properly set up.

I'm glad I did it ... very pleased .
