Bridges  Bart Veerman Clawhammer Bridge Banjo Part/Accessory Reviews

I own a Recording King OT Madison with a scoop that I like very much but felt could be tickled to have a little better tone. The stock bridge seemed to be imparting a very nasal and bright tone, even over the scoop.

That is why I went searching for heavy bridges with an added wider string spacing for easier drop-thumbing and found Bart's page. Reading all over the web quickly confirmed that these were supposed to be really good, so I ordered one with 5/8 height, 46 mm string spacing, untopped as recommended by Bart for clawhammer, and in B (heavy) weight for added dark tone.

It arrived from Canada to Germany within 4 days (!).

I couldn't be happier with the improvement... The notes pop, my banjo has a nice plunky dark tone with good sustain and has a nice deep woody sound. I love it. These are worth every penny.

Thanks Bart!

I ordered an "Untopped Mystery Wood Bridge" from Bart Veerman. Bart recommended 46 mm string spacing because this would make double thumbing easier to do. Bart was very helpful and answered all my questions very quickly. It was a pleasure to deal with him.

The bridge arrived in Munich / Germany about one week after ordering.

I play a Bacon Blue Ribbon pot with a conversion neck. Bart's bridge made a big change to my banjo. It is louder now and it sounds more clearly. The intonation of the instrument has improved, too. Bart was also right with the string spacing, I liked it immediately.

All the recordings I published on BHO were made with Bart's Mystery Wood installed. I highly recommend it!

Why did I wait so long to try one of these?  I have two of the non-topped mystery wood bridges with the 46mm spacing, and I am going to get one more.  It allows great tone and clarity to come through, but most of all, I appreciate the roomy feel of the additional spacing.  It might be like when I was a kid, and I thought that the new shoes would make me run faster...but this bridge makes me think, at least, that I am playing better.  My wife thinks so, too, so it must be true!  Also, Bart was very responsive and helpful - I would highly recommend doing business with him if you are looking for a well-crafted bridge.

It's been a while, but it got this bridge from Bart a few weeks ago and just wanted to say how great the bridge has been. It completely opened up the tone of my banjo. It's amazing how much I've been missing. The banjo sounds and plays great. This is my second bridge from him and I'll for sure be buying a third. Thanks again Bart!

I was looking for a high quality bridge for my new Pisgah Possum banjo. It already had a really good bridge that I liked a lot but I had been reading great things about Bart Veerman's bridges for a while and decided to try one.

I ordered a mystery wood bridge, no topping, 46 mm string spacing, 5/8 height. It cost 25$. All I can say is that I do not regret it ! It's (by far !) the best bridge I have ever tried, and I have bought bridges from very famous and very talented banjo builders ! Honestly, none makes my banjos sound as good as Bart's bridge does.

I eventually put the one I received on my Ramsey banjo but I'm definitely going to buy another one really soon for my Pisgah banjo.

I've tried it on both banjos (both have natural skin  heads by John Balch and already had great bridges), in both cases, the banjo came alive, more volume, more punch/pop, crisper, a little sustain than before, which I love.

Bart has been really helpful, he's the nicest guy and he sent the bridge extremely fast. I couldn't be happier.

If you're considering one of Bart's bridges, get one (or 6 if you have 6 banjos), for this quality I still can't believe it only cost me 25$ !

Thank you Bart for the quality of your work.

My banjo is a Recording King Madison RK-OT25 (an openback with a scoop neck).  It had a basic 5/8 inch Grover bridge.  Bought my 5/8 inch clawhammer bridge from Bart about 3 weeks ago.  Bart's clawhammer bridge makes my inexpensive banjo sound great!  Not only that, but it makes playing the 5th string easier for clawhammer style because the 5th string is raised 1/8 inch.
