Thanks for the note claudiacc. Actually I am retired and the old 5 is my retirement fun not fund LOL. It was my dad's and when he passed away in 1971, he left it to me. It's a fine old banjo and i enjoy it a lot.

Yes, wbelm, is is all original and has been authenticated as all original other than the head, strings and bridge. As we know, the serial / FON (8267-1) would date it to 1926, however the Florentine peghead was not available until 1927 and the flathead tone ring was not available until 1929 so this banjo was most likely ordered through the Gibson custom shop between 1929 and 1931. It has been in our family since 1935 or 1936, when my dad aquired it used. My dad passed away in 1971 and I have been the caretaker since then. If you are interested in reading more on it, there is a lot more info and a few sound clips of it on Greg Earnest's pre-war Gibson banjos site.
