This is a wonderful tune, Rick, wel-named. It’s in Adam Hurt’s favorite tuning. I wonder if you would need to call it F modal because you’re really playing in the key of F. Coincidentally I am recording a tune this morning that I wrote in the same tuning.

Lovely and a bit haunting. As Janet says, Adam Hurt's fave, and I learned it at banjo camp from Adam. I find a lot of tunes easy to play in this tuning.

Thanks Lew and Janet for listening and glad you enjoyed it. You can't go wrong learning from Adam Hurt. The Anita Kermode listing has this tuning as G-modal, lowered 5th string, but I'll defer to your music theory chops Janet. Actually I just took out the guitar to figure out some baackup chords and found myself using F and it's relative minor, Dm. It's only one note off from Sawmill; funny how that can give it a different flavor.

Another bullseye with the title! I’m watching “The Rifleman” right now, and your tune would fit in perfectly. Dm is such a beautiful key, very expressive. Beautiful composition and playing my friend.

Always appreciate the nice comments Greg. The Rifleman, that brings back memories!
