Inspired by RG for this week's TOTW and listening to Roscoe Holcomb, Bruce Molsky, Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby, here's a version of the ballad Hills of Mexico.

Nice job Janet. Your voice is almost too gentle for this song compared to some of grizzled versions usually heard. :>)

Thanks, Rick. I only belt it out when i have an audience and no mic. :)

I spend a good bit of my tv time on the western movie channels, and I could swear I heard this song the other day. Regardless, fine playing and sweet voice. You always do these songs justice!

Thanks, Greg. This song has a bit of history. Woodie Guthrie sang it as The Buffalo Skinners. John Lomax recorded it long ago and Teddy Roosevelt approved of his work. Old Westerns are an exciting genre of movies, but I can do better without the gunfighting. (I’ve been in the presense of dramatic western reenactments many times — very noisy.)
