I'm thrilled to have been asked to do the rollout of an innovative instrument that opens a new world of mando-banjo potential. The Octajo is a double-course tenor banjo tuned an octave (or lower) below mandolin and violin. With a 12” banjo rim with bronze tone ring and an octave mandolin neck the Octajo can be strung with either metal or nylon strings. The one on this recording is set up with nylon. Hope you enjoy. A tune I heard on a belly dance recording. I'm playing the prototype Octajo octave mandolin banjo by Gold Tone. Carla Roberts is playing the doumbek, a goblet shaped drum used mostly in the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe.

8-string guitar (formerly 12-string) played similarly to a 5-string banjo. Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram is a Hindu devotional song (Bhajan), very popular in India, especially as it was Mahatma Gandhi's favorite. I first heard this song sung by The Weavers.
