A classic instrumental banjo piece from Virginia old-time legend Hobart Smith. I upload my banjola version as an addendum to my Sweet Pea post on Sound Off, to show where I got the tuning - fCFCD. Please join that discussion if you care to.

Experiment in composition - posting from amorphous first impulse to (hopefully) a piece of music. So the game is I'll try to evolve this in stages and post progressively as it emerges. This one's the fooling around stage - just seeing what kind of territory my fingers might want to travel in. Please join the discussion on Sound Off. Thanks for listening.

Hello John D, Frosty Morning, Lonesome John.
Hello John D is one I heard on the New Lost City Ramblers, Gone to the Country, album back in 62. Frosty Morning I learned out of the Miles Krassen book. Lonesome John is a predecessor of Clinch Mtn Bkstep, without the hicup.

Sitar, an instrument used in North Indian classical music that I've been playing for 43 years. I studied with two great players: Dr. Shyam Yodh, in Cambridge, Massachusetts; and Ustad Rais Khan in Bombay, India. This is an improvisation in Raga Kafi.
