I'm still dusting off some of these cool old jam session recordings... This is a cool traditional ragtime tune "Dear Old Dixie" ... and this is a realistic tempo too!! I promise I won't wear you guys out with these old recordings ... but a few of these have a real nice feel to them, and the feedback I've been getting has encouraged me to post a few more for that jam session... Recorded at a Knoxville, TN jam session 12-27-06 in Bob Holmes' living room on a digital recorder with pickers in a circle. Nice relaxed picking... Frank Eastes (banjo) Bob Holmes (guitar), Jim Lethgo (guitar), Marvin Gideon (mandolin) and Dennis Wilkerson (bass) ... thanks to Bob Holmes for the recording. We were all sitting in a circle with a digital recorder on the floor. The banjo is a little soft in the blend, I think the recorder was aimed away from the banjo LOL, but it's in there enough. I hope you enjoy smiley In memory of Marvin Gideon

This is our band "Fayssoux McLean and The Bluegrass Messengers" working up this tune last week at practice. Wes Wyatt, lead guitar and lead vocal; Fayssoux McLean guitar and harmony vocals; Steve Garret on bass; Frank Eastes on banjo. We've never really worked this up before, so this will get better soon. In loving memory of Doc Watson. I hope you enjoy.

This is a beautiful traditional fiddle tune that was recorded in March 2011 at (now defunct) band practice. The lineup is: Me (on my custom top-tension banjo), Shane Lail on guitar, Keith Cole on upright bass, David Heavner on mandolin, and George Giddons on fiddle. We pulled this tune out of the air and this was the 2nd take on trying to work it up. Since it had been years since I dusted this tune off, I am a little rusty at the beginning, then it comes back to me by the end of the recording, where I am dropping in some note-for-note harmony on banjo. Recorded on a cheap digital voice recorder, so it's a tad hot. This is a cool snapshot of the organic process of how tunes are worked up in a band. And, a slightly different arrangement of this cool old fiddle tune. Enjoy!

I am unsure of the origin of this tune and wonder if was written by Monroe Queener? Monroe does some very cool harmonics in this tune. Monroe Queener (dobro), D. Stout (bass), David Perkins (guitar), Frank Eastes (banjo). Recorded at practice 12/30/1990 in David Perkin's living room, Knoxville, TN. Practice Tape (c) Frank Eastes

This is my late-night, basement grunge tape rendition of this beautiful tune "Duskus" on Tony Furtado's "Within Reach" CD. You just don't hear people playing this wonderful tune, so I'm including it here. Another tune recorded twin banjos in one take, slop and all to a tick track which was then added to weeks later as a friend was learning how to use his digital recorder. This is one of those tunes where less is more. Never intended to be anything other than a basement tape, another sloppy but fun recording, hope you enjoy. Recording by Kent Bilbrey, thanks Kent.

Recorded sometime in March 2011 in my living room, using Tyler's new Zoom recorder. This is another take at this cool tune which is from Tony Furtado's "Within Reach" CD. For practice and educational use only. a very cool tune you don't jam on much ... some fun listening just the same. For what it's worth, enjoy... I am playing my Nechville Athena banjo; Tyler is playing his Santa Cruz guitar.

The lineup is: Me (on my custom top-tension banjo), Shane Lail on guitar, Keith Cole on upright bass, David Heavner on mandolin, and George Giddons on fiddle. At the time, Shane and George were members of the Rodney Dillard Band.
