I've been meaning to work up something for this tune for years now, so I finally just did it. This pretty much follows Paul McCartney's arrangement which varies a little each time through. Here's my simple arrangement on this beautiful tune, played on two banjos (one overdubbed another). I will be posting tab for this very soon...

Wes Wyatt Band (one permutation of that group). This is our rendition of the this cool song recorded by a few different artists. I have been unable to find out who actually wrote this tune so maybe someone here will know... Recorded at a live gig 8/7/09. Wes Watt (guitar and lead vocal) Frank Eastes (banjo) Bob Hinch (dobro) and Carroll Foster (bass). Thanks to the Country Jam, Blacksburg, SC for this recording. Enjoy :)

Band practice recorded 3-16-2011 crowded around a Sony digital voice recorder. This is the 4th time this group of musicians has gotten together to practice, and so this is a rough audio snapshot of us feeling around for our sound...intended for learning and practice purposes only. Enjoy:)

This is my original tune "Blue's Kokopelli" which I've posted in the past in different permutations. This version was recorded last Thursday 3/3/2016 in Dickie Brown's music room in Glendale, SC. Me on banjo, Dickie on guitar and TJ on bass. This is the first "band" of musicians who have ever tried to take on this tune, God bless 'em. (I guess it's too weird for lots of folks around these parts.) This is probably the third time we've practiced this tune, we're still getting it down ... this is the beginning of this tune with this group, I think this has some potential... Dickie's guitar is way too quiet in the blend. We'll work on this stuff. I hope you enjoy :)

I'm slowly digging up these old jam recordings from last year. Darned if I didn't find a few more... This was recorded sometime between early March and late April 2011 on a Zoom digital recorder, just sitting around in the living room and picking. This is an interesting take on the cool song Changes by Phil Ochs and recorded by the likes of Carole King, and Tony Rice. This song definitely qualifies as a "some thought required" song because it has so many chord changes. In this recording, I had only just come up with the "signature lick" you hear, and this recording is literally the 3rd time I had played this tune before. So I was still learning it in this audio snapshot. This is me picking on my Nechville Athena, and Tyler Balkind is picking his Santa Cruz dreadnought and singing lead vocal. Enjoy :)

Tyler is a fast study, I run through this tune once and by the third time through he pick a kickin' lead. One of 17 cuts from some awesome campfire picking March 13, 2021 up in Ellenboro, NC. Last time I picked with the lead guitar picker was about 8 years ago, it's nice when things click like this. Frank Eastes (banjo) and Tyler Leonard (lead guitar).

Although this particular cut does not include a banjo, I'm uploading it as part of a thread I started about this tune, and I've already posted a video of me picking this tune on banjo. This audio file from the album "Hot Guitar" from the master himself, Col. Gene Wyatt, with his son Wes Wyatt. Read some of my other posts to learn more about thse folks, but these are the folks I learned this tune from about 25 years ago. This recording was within the last 10 years and represents some of the best of Col Wyatt, a music force in upstate SC for many years...

This is a recording from a live gig at Brickhouse Pizza in Spartanburg, SC on July 22, 2012. A cool instrumental tune we picked up along the way. Wes Wyatt on guitar. I'm picking 5-string. This was the encore number after the crowd asked for more. I always enjoy playing this, but Wes picks it faster than anyone else I know!! Thanks to Jamison Smith for capturing the gig from the main board to his laptop.

Recorded Mar 29, 2011 in my living room, using Tyler's new Zoom recorder. For practice and educational use only. Our take on this cool tune written I picked up from Col. Gene Wyatt in Spartanburg, SC about 25 years ago. Just messing around with this tune a little quicker than usual... I am playing my Nechville Athena banjo; Tyler is playing his Santa Cruz guitar.

Here is another version of this cool swing tune. I just love it, and enjoy playing it, and spreading it to bluegrassers everywhere I go. Just call me Johnny CoffeeSeed LOL. This version was recorded at a living room jam session last week, May 2, 2012. I was going to edit it down but decided to leave it in its raw, organic form. This is a living room jam, folks! Me on banjo, Wes Wyatt on guitar, who you hear teaching this tune to my brother, Kevin, on bass. Kevin lives 3,500 miles away, is a fantastic bass player, and it's always fun to make music with him. Enjoy :)

This is a fiddle tune I first learned in Memphis, TN about 25 years ago, and pull it out of the hat from time to time. It also goes by other names such as "Big Sandy River" and other similar variations. I just came across this recording in some unlabeled CDs of me picking. I am unsure when I recorded this, but I think it was probably in 2008 or 2009. This is just me picking banjo, and is my version of this cool fiddle tune. Enjoy :)

Posted to accompany a thread on Dance With Me. This is a old and rough recording from band practice when I first learned this tune. A very relaxed vibe. We later layered in the vocals, this was just a practice tape to learn from.

This is a tune by my mandolin-playing friend Jeff Tolson of Oak Ridge, TN. He showed me this tune and 15 minutes later we had this scratch recording worked up (we played it live on tv later that night). Not bad for 1/4 hour's work. This is Jeff on mandolin and me on banjo in Jeff's living room, recorded 11/7/2009. (C)(P) by Jeff Tolson. Enjoy.
