I wanted to make a backing track for something different than from songs that Dave Hum did, simply to carry on Dave's tradition of learning new songs. I heard him say that there are so many songs and so little time. He sure was right about that. I used this YouTube video of ?Blue Ridge Cabin Home? as a template. This particular recording was done by Lester Flatt and Mac Wiseman. The song is in the Key of G. Enjoy!

I used Dave Hum's YouTube video as a template to make this backing track. It's a really fun song to play. Dave Hum's family sells tabs for the song on their website, which I bought. But Dave didn't tab out a cool part that he plays in the song. I figured it out and uploaded my tabs (just for that fancy piece) that Dave plays to the forum for you.

I'm using a MIDI bass. I made this track with MixCraft Studio Pro 10.

'Clinch Mountain Backstep' is a Bluegrass banjo tune composed by Ralph Stanley (1927-2016), who until his passing was the last survivor of the great first-generation pioneers of Bluegrass music. This song uses only two chords, A and E (I capoed my acoustic guitar at the 2nd fret, so I played the G and D chord positions to give me the A and E chords, respectively). This song has a nice backwoods mountain feel to it. You'll need a capo on fret 2, and also for fret 7 on the fifth string on your banjo. Although Dave Hum recorded this song, I chose to use this backing track on YouTube by Ted Lambert at BluegrassBackingTracks.com (a new website that I can't wait to be finished). I love collecting backing tracks...lol. I used this song as a template because it has a clear bass line for me to follow. Good stuff! Enjoy!

I made this extra slow track for those like me who like to learn slow. Remember, the key to learning to play fast is to play slow, so you can learn the song note for note.

This song, "Cold Frosty Morning," is a traditional Irish/American reel. The song is also known as, "Frosty Morn." My favorite banjo artist Dave Hum recorded this song using the Sawmill Tuning (gDGCD), which is a minor chord tuning. For the second fret that would be (aEADE). I have made backing tracks for you with varying tempos, in both Keys of G and A. Dave plays the song in A, using a capo on the 2nd fret, and a 5th string capo on the 7th fret. Enjoy!
