Ever seen a walnut Studio King?

Thursday, February 14, 2013 @5:08:32 AM

I'm very curious about this amazing pre-war Gibson Studio King. I'm posting pictures posted on my homepage. Can't find any references to Studio Kings in walnut. Got it from a member on the hangout, who got it from Huber, who told him it was a 1930s Studio King. It's very much like a 1930s Style 4, one-piece flange, walnut with chrome hardware. Originally had a 40-hole archtop ring, cut by Huber for an HR-30 flathead. Differs from a Style 4 in that it only has 3 resonator lugs, one co-rod, and no purfling rings on resonator back. No serial number or label. Rim varies from 0.61" to 0.625" in thickness--don't know if that makes it a "Fatboy" or not, but the sound coming out of this thing seems to come from another world! Truly incredible.

The neck is walnut Flying Eagle by an unknown maker
