I just had my first lesson yesterday morning and I never knew there was so much I was doing wrong! LOL! Seriously though, I am very glad to have finally begun to work with a teacher and I really am looking forward to continuing on in my banjo education!
To anyone else out there in banjo land who might be trying to learn on their own, you might want (at some point) to think about working with an instructor. In my case, even though I've only had one lesson so far, I have been surprised at how many things I had been doing wrong, (such as improperly fingering the chords, the way I was placing my thumb on, and not under, the neck, etc.)
Deciding to work with a teacher might turn out to be the best decision I ever made!
Take care!
Tom
