my new cedar mountain banjo

Wednesday, June 7, 2017 @8:33:20 PM

I have loved Scruggs and melodic styles on my Stelling Superstar for 35 plus years. Recently I took up clawhammer style and was looking for a quality luthier built instrument. The L model from Cedar Mountain Banjos in South Carolina   was my choice and it proved to be the right one for me. I went for the 12” curly maple pot and neck with a Tubaphone tone ring and antique brass hardware.  Tim Gardner from CMB told me it would be a beast of a banjo and he was spot on! Clear, bright and plenty loud, it has a real feel of robustness in the build. Every element of the instrument is strongly fitted together. One welcome feature is the comparatively wide fingerboard. The arm rest is an unobtrusive, simple brass rod which looks very clean and is extremely functional and confortable. Everything about the instrument is slightly understated – except the fat sound!

It arrived in Australia in perfect condition due to the care taken in packing.  I look forward to playing and enjoying  this banjo for many years to come.
