One of my goals this year is to get out and play with people -- always more fun than only playing with yourself. So I organized a lunch-time Jam session and found 5 willing souls at work who are willing to give it a try. So far we have 2 mandolins, 2 guitars and 1 other banjo player. I know most of them as fellow employees, but not as musicians. I've never organized a jam session but I'm sure it will work out. Our playlist for the first meeting consists of Arkansas Traveler, Mississippi Sawyer and Little Rosewood Casket. All are in Wayne Erbsen's Southern Mountain Classics set of instructional books. One aim of the group is to find people who are not virtuosos, perfectionists or nitpickers -- only those willing to have fun, learn, and help other learn. I hope it will be a hit and become a regular occurrence -- we'll see.
I posted my own versions of the set at https://soundcloud.com/rodeworks .
