Like many folks my age, Steve Martin introduced the banjo to us in his comedy act. Even though his comedy was absurd, his banjo stuff was legit. I started listening to other banjo players as a result. Went out to the local music store and bought a Fender Leo. (wish I still had it today) We put together a band in college that was pretty comical. We had a couple good players and then me. The banjo in the band was more a novelty and I didn't disappoint! I didn't know much except chords and some basic rolls. Not until recently have I really gotten serious about learning the banjo correctly. i practice exclusively out of "Bluegrass Banjo" by Wernick and the Geoff Hohwald "Banjo Primer" and "Banjo Songs." Although I'm not an accomplished player by any stretch, playing the banjo gives me great joy. By the way, is there is a bluegrass scene in the Kansas City area?
