(Originally posted as a comment on Nielen Prinsloo's blog "Studio Vs. Live")
I have a basement recording studio and have recorded and produced several CDs for friends and family. My objective in the studio is to capture the magic of a live performance and I've come up with a number of studio techniques to support that objective. I don't record drums, but here's what I can suggest for songs using acoustic bluegrass instruments and vocals.

I enjoy going to bluegrass jams, picking banjo or guitar with old friends or meeting new ones. My wife Karen enjoys playing fiddle, bass and guitar. We always meet the nicest people at bluegrass jams. My work bio is at http://www.linkedin.com/in/stuartbowen but I'm "mostly retired" as of January 1, 2011 and finding more time to spend playing music these days. I also do some recording for friends and family in my spare time.
