Whether you call him a (slide)guitar player, multi-instrumentalist or singer/songwriter, critics, collegues and friends agree: Jan van Bijnen is a very versatile craftsman. In a career that has now spanned over three decades Jan backed up, did session work and arranged or produced for famed Dutch artists like Rob De Nijs, Freek De Jonge, Claudia De Breij, Paul Haenen, Alex Roeka and Markowski plus international acts Markus Rill and Adam James Sorensen. He is long-time member of Point Quiet, an Americana-noir-ensemble around singer/songwriter Pascal Hallibert. In 2016 Jan, who lives in Rotterdam, grounded Verbraak | van Bijnen with fellow 'multi-guy' Joost Verbraak playing a dobro, banjo and sousaphone-fueled blend of americana, blues, New Orleans, texmex and bluegrass. 2nd Line City was their debut for CRS/Continental, followed by the completely self-penned Endless Road, both records received raving reviews by both press and audiences. The band is now on a #monthlysinglechallenge releasing a new song every month which will be compiled on a vinyl-release later this year. As a gesture to all the fans that couldn’t get their “VvB-live-experience” because of the Covid-pandemic Verbraak | van Bijnen just released Live in 2020 at Crossroads Radio on their new label Howlin' Chicken Records. After a handful of singles this is where we stand now: Jan van Bijnen releasing his solo debut-album Modest Man, containing songs he wrote with a more personal view on life and love. Almost all of the songs were played and recorded by Van Bijnen alone; drums, basses, (slide)guitars, banjo, dobro, mandolins, vibes, pedalsteel, percussion, organs and piano. The album features [[]]togethermachine, a soundscape/beatmakeralias for Marcel van As (Spinvis/Coparck), Point Quiet-bassist Hans Custers, co-producer Joost Verbraak and young bluestalent Nienke Dingemans.
