Our last round of zoom music classes is about to start before we take a break til fall. Come join us if you'd like! I'm sharing this here because banjo players might be interested in Carl's songwriting class since he is a good banjo player too. Info below:
These 6-week classes (1hr class per week), help you get motivated, learn new tunes, techniques and get primed for festival season. Songwriters welcome on any instrument. Fiddlers will delve into techniques/bowing learned from master traditional players and some history too. Guitar and mandolin players will learn some great tunes and stylistics as well and work on concepts that add versatility to your playing. You can ask questions in real time, enjoy class from the comfort of your own home, and enjoy there is no commute! All classes are filmed so you can watch later and catch-up at your convenience if you have to miss a class. Includes sheet fiddle sheet music tab, mandolin/guitar tab of all tunes taught! Here’s the info:

Each group class meets online for an hour a week for 6 weeks on Zoom. Some people in far-flung time zones like to take the class entirely by video. Participants are given access to a class folder where all the music/tab/video links are located. You can download all class videos /music /tab onto your own computer for ongoing review. Cost per 6 session class is $75-$125 (sliding scale: you choose what you can afford). There is also a fun, community vibe in these group classes that we enjoy too!

Erynn Marshall is an old-time fiddler and banjo player who lives in Hillsville, Virginia and is known internationally for her traditional music. Erynn learned the nuances of Appalachian old-time fiddling from rare recordings and visiting 80-95 year-old southern fiddlers. Her playing seems effortless and transportive. Erynn performs at festivals, teaches at music camps around the globe, and tours with her husband - songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Carl Jones. Her tunes are becoming common repertoire in fiddle circles. Erynn won 1st place fiddle at “Clifftop” (The Appalachian Stringband Festival) and was the first woman to do so. She has recorded seven albums and appeared in five films (Voices of Virginia, the Clifftop Experience I’ll Fly Away Home, Conversations with Old-Time Musicians,” plus the upcoming Never Met a Stranger). She is coordinator for Swannanoa Old-Time Week www.dittyville.com
