Do too many beginner/intermediate players try to play difficult tunes? That's what Chas Van Winkle recently asked in a BHO forum. The discussion that followed has been enlightening, with folks chiming in with thoughts like "I also tried to play songs that were way beyond my experience and ended up frustrated and irritated." Learn the Kick-off to "Matterhorn" (Bluegrass Banjo)

In this week's featured lesson video, Jim Pankey teaches the kickoff to "The Matterhorn", a song by the Country Gentlemen (watch a 1970's recording of them performing it here).

You'll need a capo that can go up to the 7th fret. And you'll need to handle your 5th string, too! It needs to be spiked at the 12th fret... or as Jim does, spike it at the 10th, then tune it up a step. (As Jim says in the video... this isn't Bill Emerson's version... it's Jim Pankey's.)
