If there's one tuning that defines clawhammer banjo, it's sawmill tuning (gDGCD). Today's featured video from the great Tom Collins teaches the "essential sawmill scale", which is important to get under your fingers because, as Tom says, scales are "the basket of notes you can pull from when picking out melodies."
