In this, Tunetorial number 6, Dan "Clawdan" Levenson teaches Angelina Baker. Also known by the tune name Angeline the Baker, this tune is often played at jam sessions and festivals all over. It is one of the most often played tunes! Many folks also reverse the parts from the way they were written years ago (as attributed to Stephen Foster) but the video plays them in the “original” order. Don’t get fussy though, your group may do it the other way, and if so, so be it.
In this and all of the Tutorials, Dan plays the tune three times through up to speed then slow starting with a basic version and building to an advanced one. Then Dan plays the basic version and breaks it down phrase by phrase. Same with the advanced.
This is tabbed out in Dan's newest book "Old-Time Favorites for Clawhammer Banjo" (MelBay 30224). Tab and standard notation with 2 cds of banjo and fiddle audio tracks.
A must for all jammers! Enjoy and Play Nice.
