Description
This is an insanely cool and insanely rare Banjo that I am thrilled to have found. Only 20 of these were made and not all made it into America. This believe it or not is a Chinese Banjo and is probably the finest example of a Chinese Banjo that has ever existed. Even some of the best produced by companies like Gold Tone and Gold Star pale in comparison to how exceptional of work was put into this banjo. This also includes a super cool strap which may have been included originally. Even if the strap is an aftermarket accessory it is the perfect strap to go with this banjo. Wow.
This has a curly maple resonator that is covered with pearloid including a large ship and a moon. The level of art on this resonator is out of this world gorgeous. The neck has a 3 piece skunk stripe which makes this a 5 piece neck. There is also additional finish coming off of the headstock onto the back of the neck which simply looks cool.
The face of the headstock is also heavily inlaid with pearloid. I think the inlay on the fretboard is actual pearl but it may be pearloid as well, I’m just not sure. It has a pink and blue hue to the fretboard inlay which is stunning. The truss rod cover is pearl and really sets this off.
The hardware is nickel but has gold filling in the engraving which looks incredible. It really makes this have the pirate look. Inside the 20 hole tone ring there is gold plugs in the holes so clearly this was made to have this look. This banjo could not have been played much because the frets are perfect. The only part on this that is not original is a gold and engraved Fulks tailpiece which is an exceptional tailpiece.
On top of this being one of the coolest banjos I have ever seen this includes a strap that has beads inlaid throughout. This includes an Admiral Patch and an ancher. The artwork is astonishing and I can’t help but think this was included originally but I cannot confirm that. The banjo includes a TKL Hardshell Case as well.
Condition
This banjo is basically perfect. The metal shows no wear, the finish shows no wear, the fretboard is clean and the frets are perfect. This also has no spikes or 5th string capo. We will not put spikes in and we will not take a return if you put spikes in when you get it. This is a Grade A top of the line collector piece.
Set Up
This is set up with a an 11 inch frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge is a no name but I think it’s the original bridge, and the strings are Huber and this also is a super player. This banjo has a lot of pop and is set up to be a thrill to play. This is a really good example of a serious top collector grade fully worked cannon called the Morgan Monroe Admiral. Keep in mind only 20 of these exist. This is also super rare.
