Description
This is an extraordinary example of an RB4 Banjo that was made in the heart of the Greg Rich era. RB4 Banjos are extremely hard to find but especially one from the Rich era, in this condition and with this hardshell case. This is one of the best possible RB4 banjos that you can find outside of an original Pre War Flathead RB4 Banjo.
This has a 3 ply hard rock maple shell with a burled Walnut neck and resonator. The fretboard is rosewood with a Flying Eagle inlay pattern. The neck and resonator each have w/b/w binding on each side.
The hardware is nickel and all original including a Gibson USA one piece flange and a Gibson Sullivan Tone Ring. The only non original parts on this are a set of Keith D Tuners and I have heard that at times the RB4 Banjos did leave with Keith Tuners. The case is also original and is the rare Tan and Pink Original Gibson USA Hardshell Case. This case is rare.
This is a very special banjo and is in great shape and is ready to go.
Condition
This is in superb condition. The only noticeable wear is some kind of light splotching in the finish on the face of the headstock. This is pictured. This is definitely not a serious issue at all and is also common with the finish used during the Rich era. In fact something else that makes this banjo very special is the fact the resonator does not have checking. It is very common for Rich era Resonators to have checking which this does not. This banjo is in great shape.
The finish on the neck and resonator is super clean and has a nice shine. The hardware also is glowing all the way around. This banjo is stunning.
The fretboard is super clean and the frets are nearly perfect. This has spikes at frets 7,9 and 10. The case is also super clean, near mint, inside and out.
Set Up
This is set up with a new Remo frosted head set to 90. The bridge is a Sosebee and this has new Huber strings. The banjo is a stellar player and is set up for easy playing and strong volume and tone production.
This is basically the perfect RB4 Banjo and these do not come up for sale often. Buy it now!!!
