TB-3 Mastertone #25-17 dates to 1931 and is in very good original condition with the exception of a new Prucha Presto tailpiece and two new resonator thumb screws. A number of banjos from lot #25 have been seen with non-standard fingerboard inlays, and this one features the flying eagle pattern normally used on style 4 and Granada Mastertones. There is some outward flaring of the pot metal tension hoop and some pulling up of the pot metal flange (although I've seen much worse) and a small separation of the fingerboard binding at the first fret on the first-string side. I acquired this one from the family of the original owner with a torn Jos. B. Rogers calfskin head on it. It's housed in its original "red-line" Geib and Schaefer #511 case with purple flannel lining.
