EARLY 1949 GIBSON TB-100 ROBIN SMITH CONVERSION
I purchased this 1949 TB-100 with double bound resonator in 2017. It was in exceptionally good condition, and because of its documented early serial number, it was considered it to be a strong candidate for conversion to a five string. I sent the banjo to Robin Smith and after examining the banjo, he stated that it was an excellent conversion candidate. He said that all of the components, with the possible exception of the J-hooks, were pre-War, and that the rim was perfect. Robin completed the conversion in 2018, building the pre-War dimensioned, radiused neck from old growth mahogany and using Brazilian rosewood for the fret board. A Heartland No Hole Tone Ring was installed. New Gotoh tuners, including two Keith D- tuners were installed as was a new Presto tailpiece. The old tuners, tailpiece, neck, and banjo case are included, as well as a practically new Ameritage Silver Series banjo case. Additional documentation can be provided for your consideration.
