Up for sale is a ca. 1939 Gibson RB-00 that belonged to the late legendary luthier Harold Chriscoe who lived in Seagrove, North Carolina. I purchased this banjo last year from Tony Williamson of Mandolin Central (highly recommend Tony if you're looking for a great instrument!). This banjo sports a 1/2 inch rim with a bead turned on the top as was standard for most 00s. It comes with standard catalog configurations-maple neck and resonator with a beautiful sunburst finish, white binding on the resonator, a one-piece flange, unbound Brazilian rosewood fretboard, the ORIGINAL Grover tuners, and original friction fifth string tuning peg. The tailpiece is a newer Presto not original to the banjo. The original nut (pictured) will be shipped with the banjo; I currently have it set up with a zero-glide nut, Scorpion bridge, and a Remo head (not original to the banjo). This instrument is in immaculate condition for its age. There are two small holes (pictured) in the neck where a fifth string capo was installed. Spike are currently installed at the 7th and 9th frets, Frets 7 through 12 could use a refret. The banjo comes in a Superior hardshell case. This 00 is lightweight, has a great sound, and is perfect for switching between bluegrass and old-time styles. $3500 OBO-buyer pays shipping. I've linked a couple articles about Mr. Chriscoe below.
