This banjo is mint and in collector's condition. It is rare and one of the last exotic woods editions built by Wildwood founder Mark Platin, who is now retired. This magnificent instrument had sat in an unopen crate in a warehouse for many years. The owner is a well-known banjo dealer and unearthed this Wildwood, along with several other instruments, after moving locations. It came to me brand new and unplayed. I bought it thinking I would learn clawhammer, but that never happened. I'm a three-fingers player and too old to start over. The banjo has sat around the past year unplayed. It's too special to leave in a closet, so I've decided to let her go. The build quality is outstanding as you would expect from a Platin instrument. I corresponded with Mark and he confirmed this Wildwood was among the exotic woods series frailing banjos he had been making, this one with a few custom modifications. It has a dense African wenge wood tone ring and rim. The neck is also wenge wood, with curly maple bindings. Mark dressed it up with rare purple heart wood center strip on the neck that matches the purple heart pot cap. The power of this banjo surprised me, given its wooden rim. It has a very gravelly voice but with lots of clarity and resonance. The head is Fiberskin, and I added a Moon compensated bridge. If you don't want the Moon bridge I can provide another. Comes with a very nice gig case. Thanks for checking this out.
