1926 Special No. 2. All original, as far as I know, except the neck, which was supposed to have been made in the Vega factory some time after the original, and probably the No Knot tailpiece. It’s a beautiful curly maple neck, serial numbers on dowel stick and rim match, hardware is in great functional shape for the age, etc. I’m including the pictured Renaissance head with Krylon bottom treatment and a real skin (vellum) head. The Special No. 2 has a rolled brass tone hoop, and sounds great. I love the banjo, and have held onto it for almost 10 years of minimal play, because I just couldn’t stand to sell it. I’m playing almost exclusively resonator banjos now (bluegrass and country), and have a homemade open back for the occasion that I play old time. It just does not make sense to keep this banjo in a closet.
