Here's an unusual one! #9222-1 dates to 1928 and would have started out as a PB-4; it was evidently returned to the factory in the early 1930s for conversion to a tenor. Since the specifications of style 4 had by that time changed to walnut, Gibson installed a style 3 neck to match the mahogany of the earlier style 4. This one remains in excellent, unmolested condition including a Jos. B. Rogers calfskin head. It shows some flaring of the pot-metal tension hoop. The armrest is a one-piece 1930s type. This banjo sounds truly exceptional as a tenor! It will be shipped in a newer mid-grade hard five-string case.
This one is $3,500 including insured shipping to the lower 48. Sorry, no trades.
